Interactions between Green Sea Turtles and Other Species

Direct Interactions
  • Marine herbivores
  • Predators
Indirect Interactions
  • Other sea creatures

A direct interaction between green sea turtles and other marine organisms can be classified as competition for food. Any species that feeds on seagrass and algae potentially interacts with the turtle directly and may even be involved in what is known in ecology as resource partitioning. Another example of a direct interaction is one between the turtle and its main predators. The turtle directly interacts with numerous predators in a fight for survival. These predators include sharks, killer whales, and humans

The green sea turtles have indirect interactions with a number of other species on a day to day basis. However, little is known about these interactions. The green sea turtle tends to be an isolated species and has the stigma of being a loner.

Green sea turtles spend most of their time in deep ocean water. Hence, they are extremely hard to study and very little is known about their interaction with other organisms underwater. For the most part they are known to have little to no interaction with each other with either their own species (other than mating) or other organisms. They are generally solitary creatures.

I'M A BIT OF A LONER.

But that's okay with me.
